This report was prepared by TUİÇ and carried out with the support of the ETKİNİZ EU Program in order to monitor access to the right to education in higher education after the February 6, 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes. Its main objective is to document the rights violations experienced by students after the disaster, to make vulnerabilities such as gender, disability, and refugee status visible, and to call decision-makers to responsibility. Both quantitative (survey) and qualitative (focus group) methods were used in the research, and national and international legislation were examined. According to the prominent findings, students experienced the most problems such as lack of internet (77.7%), insufficient study space (68.6%), and device access (54.8%); the housing crisis and the poor quality of distance education made the process even more difficult. Female students and disadvantaged groups were more excluded in this process, and serious needs arose in areas such as psychosocial support and multilingual educational materials.
